The Lithuanian big man appears ready to leave the NBA after 14 seasons

Zalgiris Kaunas are reportedly on the verge of completing a major signing, with Jonas Valanciunas set to return to Lithuania.

According to Donatas Urbonas, the veteran center has accepted the club’s two-year offer, although he has not yet resolved his contractual situation with the Denver Nuggets.

Valanciunas is currently under contract with Denver for $10 million, but the deal remains fully non-guaranteed until July 8, 2026. The contract will become guaranteed only if he remains on the roster beyond that date. It is unclear whether this is merely a formality, though last summer’s events serve as a reminder that situations like this can still change.

The Lithuanian big man appears ready to leave the NBA after 14 seasons, during which he posted career averages of 12.8 points (56% FG, 79% FT), 9.0 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game.

The addition of Valanciunas would likely complete Zalgiris’ roster for next season, following the already-agreed arrivals of Carsen Edwards and Sterling Brown, which are still awaiting official confirmation.
