Yiğit Mehmet Okur joins Barcelona

The son of Turkish basketball legend Mehmet Okur leaves the United States to continue his development in Barcelona’s youth system.

Yiğit Mehmet Okur, the son of former Turkish star Mehmet Okur, has joined Barcelona.

Born in 2010, the young prospect began his basketball development in the United States before moving to Europe and joining one of the continent’s biggest clubs.

IMPRESSED AT THE U16 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Okur recently attracted significant attention at the FIBA U16 European Championship, averaging 9.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, while shooting an impressive 41.9% from three-point range.

The forward has particularly stood out for his shooting ability and will now continue his development within Barcelona’s youth setup.

A POTENTIAL TURKISH EL CLÁSICO

His move to Barcelona could set up a future battle against Ömer Kutluay, another highly regarded Turkish prospect at Real Madrid.

Another young Turkish talent, Ömer Kutluay, currently plays for Real Madrid.

That means future youth and U22 El Clásico matchups between Real Madrid and Barcelona could potentially feature two Turkish prospects facing each other on opposite sides of the biggest rivalry in Spanish basketball.
