“This is Barça. We play to win now. I told the players: I’m not here to build for next season—I’m here because I believe we can achieve great things immediately.”

Xavi Pascual has officially returned to FC Barcelona’s bench, and during his introductory press conference he immediately set the tone: no looking back—only the present and the immediate goals matter.

“I will never make any reference to the past,” he said. “I have great respect for Joan Peñarroya. From now on, we will only talk about what we do—good or bad.”

Pascual thanked interim coach Oscar Orellana, who led Barça to a 3-0 week before his arrival: “We have to congratulate Oscar and his staff for three important wins. The players showed intensity and focus; we are ready to play.”

The Catalan coach, who previously led the club from 2008 to 2016, admitted he had always envisioned a return: “I’ve been waiting for this call for eight years. Everyone kept telling me I would come back. I didn’t know when, but I always felt it might happen.”

His objectives are clear and uncompromising: “I have come back to win. At Barça, there are no transition seasons. We want to compete for every title.”

Pascual emphasized that every player and every staff member will start from scratch: “I will make decisions based on what I see. I haven’t replaced anyone because I want everyone to have the chance to show their value.”

The coach concluded by stressing that he’s not here to plan for the distant future, but to make an impact right away: “This is Barça. We play to win now. I told the players: I’m not here to build for next season—I’m here because I believe we can achieve great things immediately.”
