Victor Wembanyama has reached an agreement with the San Antonio Spurs on a five-year, $252 million contract extension, confirming himself as the face of the future of the Texas franchise.
The new deal includes a player option in the final season. The French superstar chose to sign for 25% of the salary cap maximum, turning down the “supermax” version that could have pushed the contract value up to $303 million. A decision that will give the Spurs greater financial flexibility to build a competitive team around their generational talent.
With this extension, Wembanyama signs the third-largest rookie extension in NBA history, trailing only Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley.
