Walker Kessler is already making his presence felt with the Los Angeles Lakers. The center recorded 22 points, eight rebounds, six blocks and three steals in Thursday night’s 125-117 win over their crosstown rivals, the LA Clippers.
After an injury-plagued 2025-26 season, the 25-year-old is enjoying the opportunity to get back on the court consistently and has already shown he can be a dominant presence at both ends.
“It’s so much fun. It’s definitely been a tough year for me, but I’ve continued to trust in God. I’m really grateful for this opportunity and to be healthy,” Kessler said after the game.
The big man is also benefiting from playing alongside two excellent passers in Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, the Lakers’ primary playmakers.
“With guys like Luka and Austin, you can put anybody out there with them and they’ll always figure out a way to make it work. Credit to them. They’re incredible,” Kessler said.
His ability to finish around the rim gives Los Angeles another weapon to capitalize on the opportunities created by its two perimeter Stars.
Kessler was just as impactful defensively. His six blocks and three steals helped the Lakers protect the paint and shift the momentum in their favor, particularly after halftime. Los Angeles dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Clippers 39-26 to build the lead that ultimately proved decisive.
Head coach JJ Redick also praised Kessler’s presence around the rim, highlighting his ability to disrupt shots that initially looked like easy baskets.
“It just felt like Walker was everywhere….He’s a fantastic basketball player, and I think he’ll continue to get better. He’s never played with a player like Luka before. He’s never really been tasked with being the anchor of the defense. These are things we think he can be, All-Star level. It’s gonna take time, it’s gonna be a process with him”.
