Marcus Carr and Aliou Diarra have been two of the key contributors to Virtus Bologna’s excellent start to the season.

The V-Nere have won seven of their nine games across the LBA and EuroLeague, picking up some impressive scalps along the way, including a victory over reigning EuroLeague champions Olympiacos.

“We have a great group of guys. The general manager and the entire organization did a great job of selecting players who really want to win and play the right way,” Canadian national team point guard Carr said shortly after the win over Baskonia.

Carr ranks among the leaders in virtually every assist category in both the LBA and EuroLeague. He has dished out an impressive 58 assists in nine games while committing just 14 turnovers. Those numbers are complemented by about 15 points per game on45% shooting from the field and 44% from three-point range.

Many of his creations end up in Diarra’s hands. The Malian big man has also established himself among the league leaders in rebounds and blocks, averaging 2.2 blocks per game in the EuroLeague to rank first overall.

The 24-year-old center appears to be improving with every game. Alongside his outstanding physical tools, he brings intensity and focus to both ends of the floor. A modern big man with a reliable touch at the free-throw line, Diarra has the potential to contribute in virtually any defensive system — a skill set that is not easy to find.

Below are the highlights from the win over Baskonia, in which Diarra and Carr combined for 36 of Virtus Bologna’s 86 points.
