Alen Smailagic has officially left Zalgiris Kaunas to join Virtus Bologna through a buyout worth approximately €300,000. Initially, there were no strong indications of a departure until Virtus made a firm offer.
In response, Zalgiris quickly secured Azuolas Tubelis from Rytas Vilnius, activating his exit clause on the final day of the deadline. The move created significant local buzz in Lithuania.
Smailagic signed a two-year deal with Virtus after averaging 8.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in EuroLeague, including a 24-point performance against Fenerbahce. The Serbian forward now enters his fourth EuroLeague season.
