In two days, Nikola Jokic’s Serbia will host Victor Wembanyama’s France at Belgrade Arena in a friendly game serving as preparation for their respective 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers later this month. The two teams will meet again three days later in Orléans for another friendly.
France head coach Vincent Collet did not hold back when discussing the matchup between the three-time MVP and the rapidly ascending Spurs star.
“Victor will become the best player in the world. I don’t know exactly when, but he will. He has incredible size and unbelievable length, especially considering that he moves like a guard. He is 7-foot-4, but he moves like a guard. He is very quick and also very smart. That is why, defensively, he is already the best in the world for me.”
At the same time, Collet believes Jokic is the best offensive player on the planet.
“The way he creates for his teammates while also scoring a lot of points with extremely high efficiency makes him a real threat against any team. If you have Jokic, you already have a good team, regardless of who plays alongside him. When he plays for Serbia, he has many good players around him and he is the one who makes everything work, helping them improve. He has so many qualities, but the main one is undoubtedly his ability to make his teammates better.”
