Verona rejects offer to move to Serie A next season, top Italian division still with 17 teams
Verona could not find the money to play in Serie A and will remain in A2
Tezenis Verona was invited to play in Serie A next season after Pistoia Basket chose the own-relegation in Serie A2. They had one week to reply to LBA’s proposal.
Verona management worked hard to find the economical resources to face a season in Serie A but today they announced that they will remain in Serie A2.
And Serie A is, as of now, with 17 teams after the decision to promote Torino.
Udine will be the next one that will be invited, then Ravenna and Napoli. But the three teams are highly unlikely to accept the invitation in top division.
At the moment the chance to have an even number of team in Serie A is if Virtus Roma or Vanoli Cremona, which are having big financial difficulties, will not participate in next season.
