In a major twist, Vasilije Micic will stay in the NBA for the time being. The Phoenix Suns, expected to waive the former EuroLeague MVP, activated the third year of his contract and traded him to the Charlotte Hornets, dramatically altering the summer outlook for many top European clubs.
Micic’s recent appearance in Athens had sparked speculation, but the Serbian guard clarified he was only visiting for vacation. With his rights now belonging to the Hornets, it’s unclear whether they’ll keep him on the roster, buy him out, or seek another trade.
Multiple EuroLeague contenders — Fenerbahce leading the race, along with Efes, Real Madrid, Monaco and Dubai BC — were circling. However, Micic’s NBA contract, worth over $8 million for 2025–26, complicates matters significantly.
His European return now appears uncertain, leaving teams with a tough choice: wait it out or move on to alternative targets.
