UNC to name Hubert Davis head coach

UNC is expected to name Hubert Davis as head coach after Roy Williams’ retirement.

Per 247Sports, Davis spent the past nine seasons as an assistant coach on Williams’s staff with responsibilities including recruiting, bench coaching and scouting. He also oversaw the squad’s charitable endeavors and clinics and spent six seasons coaching the Tar Heels’ JV squad.

The 50-year-old played for Dean Smith from 1988-92, helping UNC to the 1991 Final Four and to ACC Tournament titles in 1989 and 1991. He scored 1,615 points (11.8 per game) in 137 career games and still holds the UNC record for career 3-point shooting percentage (.435). Davis scored 25 points against the Williams-led Kansas Jayhawks in the 1991 Final Four and delivered a career-high 35 points at Duke on March 8, 1992. He earned second-team All-ACC honors as a senior in 1991-92 after averaging 21.4 points per game.
