Karl-Anthony Towns played through a Grade 2 quad strain to lead the New York Knicks past the Cleveland Cavaliers, 119-111, with 19 points and 12 rebounds in his team debut at Madison Square Garden.
Listed as doubtful earlier in the day, Towns decided to play minutes before tipoff. “It was hurting, for sure,” he said, explaining he didn’t want to disappoint the fans despite missing recent practices and preseason games.
New coach Mike Brown praised his team’s depth as New York won without Mitchell Robinson and Josh Hart. “We’re deep,” Brown noted. “It’s just about finding the right combinations.” The Knicks face Boston next.
