Nikola Topic made his NBA G League debut with the Oklahoma City Blue, returning after a major knee injury and chemotherapy following a testicular cancer diagnosis. He recorded 7 points and 7 assists in 16 minutes in a 137-135 overtime win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Ahead of the Thunder’s matchup in Los Angeles, head coach Mark Daigneault celebrated the milestone: “We’re all just collectively thrilled that he’s back playing basketball”. He added it was “so good for him mentally to get his feet back underneath him”.
Drafted 12th overall in 2024 despite tearing a knee ligament two months earlier, Topic has played sparingly over the past two years, including Summer League and preseason before his diagnosis. Daigneault called it a “Great accomplishment” and “an unbelievable accomplishment,” praising Topic’s “mental toughness, maturity, resilience”.
INCREDIBLE: Nikola Topic made his return for the OKC Blue tonight for the first time since beating cancer. 🙏
