Tenerife, medical examinations raise the curtain on the 2026/27 season

The new season gets underway. La Laguna Tenerife 2026/27 has officially begun. The first medical examinations, carried out at the Hospital Universitario de Hospiten Rambla, have officially marked the start of the club’s 23rd season in the Spanish top flight and the 15th consecutive campaign of its current era.

The first player to undergo the tests ahead of the start of training was Gio Shermadini, who successfully completed them during the week, including the specific tests related to the cardiac issue he suffered towards the end of last season. The Georgian center will therefore begin preseason work with his teammates next week.

As for the rest of the roster, Tim Abromaitis, Bruno Fitipaldo, Jaime Fernández and Héctor Alderete passed their respective medical examinations on Friday. The rest of the squad will undergo the tests in several groups starting Monday, August 17. In the meantime, Jaka Lakovic’s players are carrying out individual and gym work. The first team practice with the ball is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, at the Pabellón de Deportes de Tenerife Santiago Martín.

Upcoming arrivals

Of the players on the aurinegro roster, the five players mentioned above are already on the island, along with new signings Ethan Happ and Xabi López-Arostegui. Wesley Van Beck is expected to arrive this afternoon, while the latest confirmed addition, Arturs Kurucs, will arrive on Saturday evening. Aaron Doornekamp and Kyle Guy will land in Tenerife on Monday, while TJ Bamba and Marcelinho Huertas are expected to arrive on Thursday, August 20, and Sunday, August 23, respectively.

Meanwhile, Rokas Giedraitis continues his recovery from the knee injury he suffered last season under the supervision of the club’s medical staff.

The league starts on September 27

The club will announce the full preseason schedule in the coming days, once the final details have been confirmed. The official Liga Endesa season will begin on Sunday, September 27, when La Laguna Tenerife hosts Casademont Zaragoza at Santiago Martín at 12:00 local time.

The EuroCup campaign will also begin at home, on Wednesday, September 30, against Turkish side Turk Telekom, with tip-off scheduled for 20:00 local time.
