Mark Tatum, Adam Silver’s right-hand man, also spoke at the press conference before the NBA Finals about the NBA’s meetings with EuroLeague and FIBA regarding the NBA Europe project. Here are his statements:
Mark Tatum said: “The meeting in Geneva was a big step. I hope we will continue to make progress. For the first time, all EuroLeague clubs with permanent licenses were represented. The meetings with FIBA and EuroLeague were very productive, and we will continue to talk.”
Regarding the format between the Champions League and the NBA Europe, Tatum said, “In the new league, we could qualify the top two teams from the Basketball Champions League and organize a tournament for the remaining spots. The top two teams in the new league could play in the NBA Cup in the future. When supersonic travel becomes available, we could establish a European division. All of this is very exciting.”
Regarding teams from Eastern Europe, he said: “There is a role for Eastern European teams in our league. We want clubs from Serbia, Israel, Turkey, and Greece.”
