Svetislav Pešić, a pillar of European basketball, has no doubts about his own value. During an event organised by Bonitet, Pešić shared his thoughts on his career and the current state of coaching.
“I have been coaching for 40 years, there have been victories and defeats, but I am a coach. One of the best coaches in Europe. When you don’t say it, I say it,’ Pešić said with a smile, underlining his long and fruitful career.
Pešić also reflected on the changing role of the coach: ‘To be a leader, a successful coach, you have to be authentic. When I played basketball, the coach would come and tell us that it was an important game to win, and that was enough for us. Today, a coach does the same, but the players ask: ‘We know we have to fight, but how?’ The problem for coaches today is that young players know more and question decisions more. So today you have to know everything and be ready to answer their every question.”
