Steve Nash to Play for Italian Club Como 1907 in The Soccer Tournament (TST)

Former NBA MVP Steve Nash Joins Cesc Fabregas as members of Como 1907’s TST roster

Legendary NBA point guard Steve Nash has announced that he will be playing for Italian Serie B club Como 1907 in The Soccer Tournament, the $1 million, winner-take-all, 7v7 world championship playing its inaugural event at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC from June 1-4. NBC Sports will be airing 27 TST matches live in the United States, including Nash and Como 1907.

 

Nash, a two-time NBA MVP, eight-time NBA All-Star, and rabid soccer fan, will join acclaimed Spanish international midfielder Cesc Fabregas on the roster for Como 1907 in next week’s TST. Fabregas, a co-owner of Como 1907 who currently plays for the club, will be in a player-coach capacity for TST.

 

“I’m excited to join Como 1907 for TST this year – always a thrill for me to get on the pitch with professional footballers, and can’t wait to be out there with this group of athletes,” said Nash.

 

A first-of-its-kind soccer event, TST will feature 32 teams from eight different countries competing in a World Cup-like group stage. Sixteen teams will advance to the knockout stage, where they will compete in single elimination games for a $1M grand prize. In addition to Como 1907, Teams competing in the event include 7-a-side teams from notable European clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, West Ham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wrexham, Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv, MLS club Charlotte FC, Liga MX’s Club Necaxa, Clint Dempsey’s Team Dempsey, and US Women, a team of former US women’s national team players organized by Heather O’Reilly and coached by Mia Hamm.

 

In addition to Nash and Fabregas, notable players include NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco (Nati SC), social media influencer and former MLS Academy product Noah Beck (Borussia Dortmund), among others. TST’s field will also include 24 former U.S. senior national team players on both the men’s and women’s side with more than 1,400 matches of experience combined.

 

Como 1907 will be playing in Group E, which also features Wrexham Red Dragons, the historic Welsh club made famous in the United States by the show Welcome to Wrexham, US Women, and Say Word FC.

 

Como’s first group stage game is scheduled against Wrexham on Thursday, June 1 at 1:30 pm ET, and can be seen live on Peacock. Their second game will be against Say Word FC on Thursday, June 1 at 8:45 pm ET. Como’s final group stage game against US Women will be on Friday, June 2 at 12:00 pm ET.
