Olimpia Milano’s GM, Christos Stavropoulos, returns to speak after a long time on Repubblica-Milano, in the column by Luca Chiabotti entitled ‘Uomini e Canestri’ (Men and Hoops).
ON THE OFF-SEASON
“Fifteen players is the minimum to sustain a season like ours. They became 19 only because we had injuries and problems. On the transfer market, I want to emphasise that everything that has been said so far about the players already taken is not true. Milan is an attractive place, the club is attentive, but it is too important for us to win the Italian championship before finalising the new team’.
ON PLAYERS UNDER CONTRACT
“(Shields and Mirotic). Besides them, there are Lo, Tonut with an option, Ricci, Flaccadori, Bortolani, Caruso but there will be work to do for the new team, as always… The market is difficult for everyone, the top players are few and their contracts have skyrocketed. In the Euroleague we are very worried and we are looking for suitable tools to protect the teams’ products and apply a salary cap. I don’t want to get into the game of lining up who spends more: everyone, to be competitive, invests what is right’.
