The San Antonio Spurs have officially ruled out Victor Wembanyama for Wednesday night’s NBA Cup quarterfinal against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The French superstar has been sidelined since a Nov. 14 loss to the Golden State Warriors with a left calf strain.
Without Wembanyama, the Spurs have stayed afloat, winning eight of the 11 games he has missed, including two NBA Cup group games that helped them reach the knockout stage.
San Antonio is choosing caution, keeping their franchise player out even in a high-stakes elimination game.
In his third season, Wembanyama is averaging career highs with 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and a league-leading 3.6 blocks per game.
He can only miss five more games this season to reach the 65-game threshold required for eligibility for the major end-of-season awards.
