Smith is the EuroCup’s new three-point king

Kazan guard passed Rafa Martinez for the all-time lead.

Jamar Smith is the 7DAYS EuroCup three-point king after making the 224th triple of his career on Wednesday for UNICS Kazan against Umana Reyer Venice. Smith’s fourth three of the game and his 18th of the season took him past three-time EuroCup champion Rafa Martinez for the all-time lead. The record-breaking three came from the elbow in transition off an Isaiah Canaan steal and assist with 7:48 on the clock in the third quarter.

A EuroCup champion with Unicaja Malaga in 2017, the 33-year-old Smith is in his seventh season in the competition. He has competed in the EuroCup with Brose Baskets Bamberg of Germany, Limoges CSP of France, Unicaja of Spain and his current team UNICS of Russia, with which he is playing his fourth consecutive campaign. He has also played for Prostejov of the Czech Republic, Maine of the D-League and Galil Gilboa of Israel.

Smith has made more three-pointers (226) than two-pointers (198) in his EuroCup career, with a 45.1 percentage. With the record-setting three-pointer, Smith also climbed to 11th place on the EuroCup’s all-time scoring list with 1,135 points and is the competition’s top scorer among active players. Martinez is now second in three-point shots made at 223. Marko Popovic, the 2011 EuroCup Finals MVP and a two-time champion, is third with 207 three-point shots made, followed by Sasu Salin (178) and Kyle Kuric (174).
