Shock in Istanbul as Yam Madar is hit by a coin thrown by Besiktas fans

Fenerbahce guard was injured on his right eyebrow during the all-Istanbul clash in the Turkish Basketball Super League

After scoring the game-winner in the Euroleague clash against Real Madrid, Fenerbahce guard Yam Madar got injured on his right eyebrow during the Turkish league match against Besiktas as a consquence of a coin thrown to the court by fans.

The guard exited the game as Besiktas’s coaches and players appealed to their fans to remain calm. Madar later returned to the game with a bandage on his right eyebrow. He finished the game with 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist as Besiktas defeated Fenerbahce with a score of 68-64.

After the game, Fenerbahce coach Dimitris Itoudis had this to say: “Today, we can’t just talk about basketball. Yam Madar had a coin thrown in his eye. He could have lost his eye. Knock on wood, I hope it doesn’t happen again. I ask the federation and the authorities: if it [the coin] had hit any referee in the eye, would we have continued? This happens because of the tolerance shown by the Basketball Super League. Beşiktaş plays in EuroCup; can they do something like this there? They would be penalized.”
