Shaquille O’Neal has added another unique honor to his remarkable career. The NBA legend and Hall of Famer has been named an honorary FBI Special Agent following the graduation of the FBI National Academy’s Session 299.
The announcement was made by FBI Director Kash Patel.
“This session is historic – FBI was honored to be joined by one of the best supporters of law enforcement in the country – Shaquille O’Neal – who graduated with this session and became an honorary FBI Special Agent.”
Shaq’s long-standing connection with law enforcement
The recognition is far from the first time O’Neal has worked alongside law enforcement.
The four-time NBA champion has maintained a strong interest in police work for decades and, during his playing career, completed police training and served with several departments.
In 2005, while playing for the Miami Heat, O’Neal was sworn in as a Miami Beach reserve police officer after completing training. He had previously served as a reserve officer in Los Angeles and later joined the Doral Police Department as a reserve officer in 2015.
“I wanted to learn the profession”
O’Neal has repeatedly spoken about his admiration for law enforcement.
Earlier in his career, he said that he wanted to learn the profession rather than simply receive an honorary position because of his fame.
