Seven-year deal between EuroLeague and Dubai

New update in the telenovela that could bring a Dubai team to the EuroLeague

New update in the telenovela that could bring a Dubai team to the EuroLeague. According to Encestando, the 13 shareholder teams will meet on Monday 26th for a vote that could mark the entry of a new franchise based in the Emirates.

The Spanish portal announces two news items. Firstly, it would be a seven-year deal, during which Dubai would make a financial contribution to the 13 owner clubs: a longer agreement than the five years hypothesised in recent weeks.

This deal would also include an increase in funding for the competition itself and the contribution of new sponsors.

Secondly, the Dubai franchise will not make its debut in the EuroLeague as originally planned, but will start its journey in the Eurocup with the aim of growing and consolidating before joining the EuroLeague for the next six seasons.

Among the shareholder teams, only Olympiacos and Maccabi would oppose Dubai’s entry, two would be reluctant and nine would support the deal.

In March, the ABA will vote on whether to admit the Dubai team to the league. Home games would then be played in Belgrade.
