Sergio Scariolo bids farewell to Real Madrid: “We achieved our goal”

Coach Sergio Scariolo said goodbye and thanked Real Madrid following the end of their collaboration. Below are his statements and the original video in which the Italian coach reflected on and looked back at his time on the Real Madrid bench.

Sergio Scariolo’s farewell:

“The time has come to say goodbye to the Real Madrid fans. Now, after all the self-criticism we have shared on many occasions, it is time to express my gratitude. First of all, to the club for giving me this opportunity, to the players for their commitment and discipline, to the coaching staff for their professionalism and loyalty, and to the fans who, for the most part, believed in us and supported us until the very end. From my very first day at the club, I was asked to bring Real Madrid back to where it belongs in European basketball. One year later, I can say that we achieved that goal.

From my first day at the club, 12 months ago, I was asked, with complete clarity and authority, to restore Real Madrid to a position of prestige in Europe. One year later, with humility and pride, I can say that we accomplished that by playing the best basketball possible considering the characteristics of our players: with a great regular season, an excellent playoff run and an outstanding Final Four despite having a team decimated by injuries and competing in an extremely hostile environment. I’ll leave it at that.”
