RJ Luis Jr.’s clearance to play for LSU despite signing multiple NBA contracts has reignited the eligibility dispute

The SEC has taken a stand against athletes returning to college competition after leaving the NCAA and signing professional contracts. The issue now directly affects basketball following the case of RJ Luis Jr.

As reported by ESPN’s Heather Dinich, a Louisiana judge granted Luis a temporary injunction allowing him to play for LSU despite having signed multiple NBA contracts. The situation stems from the ongoing legal fight over NCAA eligibility rules.

“Individuals who choose to leave college athletics, sign professional playing contracts, and compete professionally should not then be permitted to return,” the SEC said. “Allowing that to occur will blur the line between college and professional sports and reduce opportunities for other athletes.”
