Scoot Henderson is unlikely to receive a contract extension from the Trail Blazers before the October 19 deadline. Portland still views him as a potential long-term piece, but the team’s crowded backcourt complicates the situation.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the arrival of Ja Morant, along with Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday, is expected to reduce Henderson’s role and keep him coming off the bench.
The financial side will also matter. Henderson may need to prove he is worth more than the roughly $16 million taxpayer mid-level exception. Portland, however, reportedly refused to engage in trade talks involving him before last season’s deadline, showing the franchise remains high on his upside.
