Germany back on top of Europe: 88–83 win over Turkey seals EuroBasket gold
Germany returned to the top step of the EuroBasket podium with a thrilling 88–83 victory over Türkiye, in a final full of back-and-forth action. This gold medal marks a historic moment for the Germans, who reclaim the European crown they last won in 1993, completing a rare back-to-back following their World Cup triumph two years ago.
In an incredibly balanced game, featuring 15 lead changes and 11 ties, it was the talent of Dennis Schröder that made the difference. Rightfully named MVP, Schröder led his team in the decisive final possessions and finished with a double-double to his name.
Germany shot 14-for-26 from three-point range and dished out 24 assists, with a heroic performance from Bonga in key moments and the usual brilliance of Wagner.
Türkiye, coached by Ergin Ataman, once again settles for silver as they did in 2001. Despite strong showings from Osman (on fire from beyond the arc) and Sengun, it wasn’t enough to overcome the determination and composure of the new European champions.
Türkiye: Larkin 13+6+9, Hazer 2, Osman 23+5, Korkmaz, Sengun 28, Osmani 2, Bona 12, Sipahi 3, Yurtseven
Germany: Bonga 20+5, O.Da Silva, Lo 2, T.Da Silva 13, Wagner 18+8, Theis 3+5, Schroder 16 & 12 assists, Hollatz, Thiemann 7, Obst 9
