AS Monaco coach Sasa Obradovic recently spoke with RTRS about his relationship with Mike James.
The point guard is on his way to becoming the all-time top scorer in the Euroleague.
“It used to be different, it was the player who had to adapt to the coach. The coach was an autocrat, now it’s different, a coach has to find a way to work with some guys who are a bit problematic like Mike.
We’ve been together for almost three years. He’s never been with anybody longer. We’ve had some little problems, but I think ours now is a phenomenal partnership.
As I have told him on several occasions, I will be grateful to him for the rest of my life, because no matter how good you are as a coach, or what your ideas are, without the truly great players it’s tough. It is a great truth that these kinds of players make the difference. When you put a team together with them, you have to see who can work well with whom. He is a priority, just like Loyd and Okobo are, they all make the difference for our team”.
After 26 rounds, AS Monaco is third in the Euroleague standings along with Panathinaikos and Virtus Bologna with 16 wins.
