San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will miss a few weeks due to a left calf strain, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Monday. The 21-year-old underwent an MRI on Sunday and will be reevaluated in 2-3 weeks.
The Spurs opted to rest Wembanyama as a precaution after he experienced tightness in his calf before Sunday’s win over the Kings. The setback comes two days after a dominant 26-point, 12-rebound, 4-assist, 3-block outing versus the Warriors.
Wembanyama is averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists this season while leading the NBA with 3.6 blocks per game. In his absence, Luke Kornet, Kelly Olynyk, and Bismack Biyombo are expected to share minutes in San Antonio’s frontcourt.
