Usman Garuba expected to be in Spain preliminary Olympic list

Real Madrid rising star Usman Garuba will be a part of Spain’s NT Preliminary List for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, reports Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Garuba won’t attend the upcoming NBA Combine because of his dealings with the National Team. Spain will conduct a training camp in Las Vegas on the eve of the Tokyo Games

Magic reportedly add Willie Green, Charles Lee, Ime Udoka to coach candidates list

Willie Green, Charles Lee and Ime Udoka have emerged as candidates for the head coaching job of the Orlando Magic, reports Josh Robbins of The Athletic.

Green is currently an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns; Lee is in his seventh season as an assistant coach and has worked under Mike Budenholzer with both the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks; Udoka, eyed also by the Boston Celtics, is working as an assistant for the Brooklyn Nets.

Jamahl Mosley, Jason Kidd, Terry Stotts expected to be candidates for Dallas coaching job

The Dallas Mavericks are the latest NBA franchise active on the coaching market after the shocking departure of Rick Carlisle. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon identified Jamahl Mosley, Jason Kidd and Terry Stotts as three probable candidates for the job, after Mavs owner Mark Cuban said that the priority is to appoint a new GM.

Mosley has been an assistant coach with the Mavericks since 2014 and is known to be close to Luka Doncic. Kidd won his lone NBA title with the Mavs in 2011 and is now serving as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers. Stotts was previously an assistant coach with the Mavericks under Carlisle before he became head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Celtics to trade Kemba Walker to Oklahoma for Horford and Brown

Celtics will trade Kemba Walker to Oklahoma for Al Horford and Moses Brown as reported by ESPN.

Boston will send also the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft and a 2025 second-round draft pick for a 2023 second-round pick.

Some of Zion Williamson’s family members want to see him on another team

Certain family members of Zion Williamson want to see him on another team, sources tell The Athletic. The Pelicans have missed the playoffs in each of Williamson’s first two seasons in the NBA and the team will have a third head coach in all three years of the former Duke star.

Williamson’s family has expressed unhappiness with the Pelicans, voicing displeasure with Stan Van Gundy, who they thought was too rigid and demanding as head coach. The player, however, is said to be focused on basketball and helping the Pelicans win next season. Williamson was also irritated by the decision to trade J.J. Redick.

Washington, Scott Brooks reportedly agree to part ways

Washington and coach Scott Brooks couldn’t come to an agreement on a new deal as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.

They are agreeing to part ways, sources tell ESPN.

Weatherspoon, Vaughn, Udoka, Lee, Kidd reportedly expect to emerge as cadidate for New Orleans

Teresa Weatherspoon is expected to emerge as a candidate to replace Stan Van Gundy as reported by Marc Stein.

For Adrian Wojnarowski the names are Ime Udoka (Brooklyn), Charles Lee (Milwaukee) and Jason Kidd (Lakers).

Kawhi Leonard double option for a max with Clippers: $175M in 2021 or $246M in 2022

John Hollinger of The Athletic gives a comprehensive picture on the situation of Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard is almost certain to decline his $36 million option with the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2021-22 season. This summer, Leonard can only sign a four-year, $175 million deal with the Clippers this offseason as he will be an early Bird free agent.

If Leonard signs a one-plus-one and becomes a free agent again in 2022, he can then sign a five-year, $246 million deal as he will have full Bird rights with the Clippers.

Blazers owner pushed management to include women candidates for head coach

According to USA Today, Portland Trail Blazers owner Jody Allen – the sister of the late Paul Allen – asked GM Neil Olshey to include women candidates in their search for the successor of coach Terry Stotts.

San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon will interview for the job. The Blazers also received permission to speak with South Carolina women’s coach Dawn Staley.

Isaiah Hartenstein expected to decline player option on his contract with Cavs

According to reports from Michael Scotto and Chris Fedor, Isaiah Hartenstein will likely turn down the player option on his contract (for the veteran minimum) with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The big man would like to sign a multi-year contract in the upcoming Free Agency.

This year Hartenstein averaged 8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assist and 1.2 blocks in 16 games played for the Cavs.

Sergio Scariolo a name to keep an eye on if Virtus Bologna decides to change coach

Sergio Scariolo is a strong candidate for Virtus Bologna head coaching job, as reported by Il Corriere dello Sport and confirmed to Sportando.

Sasha Djordjevic’s departure from Virtus Bologna was almost certain when Serie A playoffs started, also considering the elimination in EuroCup semifinals against Unics Kazan and the missed chance to play in EuroLeague next season.

But Virtus Bologna dominated the Serie A playoffs and the finals against Olimpia Milano winning the title after twenty years.

After Scudetto, Virtus Bologna owner Massimo Zanetti said that he will see, talk and negotiate with Djordjevic whose future could be far from Bologna.

Scariolo recently extended the contract with Toronto Raptors but he is open to a return to Italy where he coached Olimpia Milano from 2011 to 2013.

Kemba Walker, Celtics motivated to find trade in offseason

The Boston Celtics and Kemba Walker are likely to move forward with a trade scenario this offseason, sources tell Bleacher Report.

While Walker has two more seasons remaining on his contract at $36 million and $37.7 million and will make any trade difficult, both sides are motivated to get a deal done. Boston tried to trade Walker before the season started in a package for Jrue Holiday, according to the report.

Possible destinations mentioned for Walker are the New York Knicks and the Dallas Mavericks.

Celtics seek permission to interview Udoka, Billups, Ham, Mosley, others for coaching job

Brad Stevens has begun to reach out to teams to speak with head coaching candidates as the Boston Celtics continue their head coaching search, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Stevens vacated the position as head coach to assume duties as president.

The Celtics have reached out for permission to interview the following current assistant coaches: Chauncey Billups of the Los Angeles Clippers, Darvin Ham and Charles Lee of the Milwaukee Bucks, Jamahl Mosley of the Dallas Mavericks and Ime Udoka of the Brooklyn Nets. Boston’s initial list of candidates is expected to be expansive beyond the reported names.

Luka Doncic hints that he will sign Five-Year, $200M+ max extension with Mavs

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic will become eligible for a rookie scale max extension (30% cap) because it is virtually certain that he will be included in one of the three All-NBA Teams for the second consecutive season.

Doncic has hinted to the media that he intends to sign.

 

According to Bobby Marks,  based on a $115 million cap for the 2022-23 season, the new contract will be worth over 200 million over 5 years.
