Cavs to hire Jose Calderon to front office role

The Cleveland Cavaliers have hired José Calderón as Special Advisor to the Front Office, Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts.

Calderón joins the Cavaliers from the National Basketball Players Association where he served as the Special Assistant to the Executive Director, working closely with NBPA Executive Director Michele Roberts and the NBPA’s senior management team on union strategy and specific issues relevant to current NBA players. In his role with the Cavaliers, Calderón will assist the front office achieve their goals both on and off the court in a variety of engagements.

“We are thrilled to add someone of José Calderón’s background and experience to our front office,” said Altman. “His accomplishments as a basketball player and familiarity with our organization will be invaluable. We look forward to his insights and perspective on how we can continue moving this team forward and enhancing our efforts towards sustainable and long-term success here in Cleveland.”

Calderón spent 14 seasons in the NBA, playing for seven different teams, including the Cavaliers’ NBA Finals run during the 2017-18 season. He posted career averages of 8.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 26.4 minutes over 895 career games. A native of Villanueva de la Serena, Spain, Calderón played six seasons in the Spanish professional leagues before beginning his NBA career in 2005 with the Toronto Raptors. Calderón also represented his home country at four Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016), earning silver medals in 2008 and 2012 and a bronze medal in 2016.

Russell Westbrook: No regrets about Laker trade

Russell Westbrook is happy to be at the Lakers and has no regrets for his trade happened last offseason.

Per The Athletic, So while the Lakers may have had second thoughts about this pairing, in other words, he has not. “No,” he said when asked if he had any regrets about the move. “Nah. I mean, not at all, because — like I told you — it’s bigger than basketball for me.” .

“I never worry,” he fired back. “Do the job. Be professional. Every year, my name is in trade (rumors). It never, never, never seeps into how I approach what I do. It’s kind of what I was mentioning back there (during the press conference). I see this game so different (in terms of) how to use it to be able to impact things. “Regardless of if (a trade) did happen or if it didn’t happen, nothing’s going to change my mentality or my purpose. I feel like I have a purpose that’s bigger than basketball and I always keep that as my forefront regardless of what happens inside of pro sports.” –

Warriors’ James Wiseman had minor surgery on his knee in mid-December

Warriors big man James Wiseman underwent minor surgery in mid-December.

Per The Athletic, James Wiseman underwent a minor surgery on his knee in mid-December, which has slowed his comeback.

Wiseman underwent surgery on his meniscus initially in April.

Wiseman’s December surgery was a scope and cleanup to flush out some loose bodies. Wiseman has spent the past month building toward full-contact activity.

“His rehab is going really well,” Steve Kerr said. “His knee is feeling good. His spirits are up, he’s bouncing around practice — high energy. He’s getting ready to play with some contact. It’s exciting just to see a smile on his face and to see him back after this long of an absence.”

Malcolm Hill reportedly joining Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have reached an agreement with Malcolm Hill.

The Illinois product, who will sign a 10-day deal, made his NBA debut with the Atlanta Hawks this year, scoring 17 total points in 3 games.

 

Milwaukee Bucks Sign Lindell Wigginton To A Two-Way Contract

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed guard Lindell Wigginton to a Two-Way contract and requested waivers on Two-Way guard Javonte Smart.

Wigginton, a 6-1, 189-pound guard, has played in 17 games (11 starts) with the Wisconsin Herd this season and is averaging 17.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 30.8 minutes per game.

Knicks, Hornets among teams reportedly interested in Myles Turner

Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report points to Myles Turner as the Indiana Pacers player with the most chance of changing teams before the trade deadline.
According to the reporter, teams interested in the big man include Dallas, Minnesota, New York, Sacramento, Charlotte, Portland and Toronto.

Turner is averaging 13 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks  per game.

Blazers’ Lillard undergoes surgery to repair a core injury causing chronic abdominal pain

Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard underwent surgery this morning to repair a core injury causing chronic abdominal pain, the team announced today.

The procedure was performed by Dr. William C. Meyers at The Vincera Institute in Philadelphia and Lillard will be reevaluated in six weeks.

In 29 games (all starts) this season, Lillard has averaged 24.0 points (40.2% FG, 32.4% 3-PT, 89.3% FT), 4.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 36.4 minutes per game.

Meeting between Rich Paul and 76ers management ends in stances unchanged

Agent for Ben Simmons – Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul – met today with Sixers’ Daryl Morey and Elton Brand to discuss status of stalemate, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Stances are still unchanged: Simmons no closer to playing this season – and Sixers determined to bring back a significant player in a trade. Sixers continue to want Simmons to return to the floor, but there’s no movement on that front nor traction on a trade now. Trade deadline is Feb. 10

Clippers star Paul George could be out for remainder of the season

The Los Angeles Clippers are operating under the possibility that Paul George may not return to game action this season, sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

George sustained a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow earlier this season. Clippers announced the injury on Christmas Day and gave a 3-4 week timetable for when George would be re-evaluated.

Lakers Sign Sekou Doumbouya to Two-Way Contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Sekou Doumbouya to a two-way contract, it was announced today. In a related move, the Lakers requested waivers on Jay Huff.

In two games with Los Angeles this season, Doumbouya averaged 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 block in 8.0 minutes per game. He has appeared in 96 career NBA games (30 starts) for the Lakers and Pistons, averaging 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 17.1 minutes.

Collins reportedly frustrated in Atlanta while Hawks emerging as potential landing spot for Simmons

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that the Atlanta Hawks are an emerging potential landing spot for Philadelphia 76ers All Star guard Ben Simmons, still at odds with the franchise.

Atlanta could form a package made of Cam Reddish and John Collins, as the young forward has grown increasingly frustrated over his role in Atlanta as reported by Charania. Collins is eligible to be traded from Jan. 15 after having signed a five-year, $125 million deal in restricted free agency last offseason.

Magic extend contracts of President Weltman and GM Hammond until 2025-26

The Orlando Magic have extended the contracts of President Jeff Weltman and GM John Hammond through the 2025-2026 seasons, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski
