Warriors rule Klay Thompson out for the season

Klay Thompson, who suffered a torn left ACL during Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, was recently re-evaluated and confirmed to be on track with his rehabilitation timeline. He will not play the remainder of this season, but is expected to return when training camp begins late Sept.

Coach Steve Kerr said that there is still a chance for him to play for Team USA at Olympics.

“It’s not off the table,” the coach told ESPN. “It’s still a possibility. We haven’t really discussed it. I think the [Olympic] team meets in July, so it’s still quite a ways away. But it’s really not anything we’re discussing at this point. It’s still a possibility … obviously his health is the No. 1 concern, and so we’ll kind of cross that bridge when we come to it.”

John Beilein Resigns as Cavaliers Head Coach

John Beilein has resigned from his position as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman announced today. Beilein will be reassigned to a different role within the organization.

The Cavs have the worst record in the Eastern Conference with 14 wins in 54 games.

According to Moshe Barda, Maccabi Tel Aviv is trying to secure the signings of both Kostas Papanikolaou and T.J Leaf for the upcoming season.
Papanikolau is averaging over 8 points and 3 rebounds in Euroleague for Olympiacos.
Leaf, born in Tel Aviv 22 years ago, is in his third season with the Indiana Pacers. He has a year remaining on his rookie contract.
This year Leaf has played 22 games, with averages of 3 points and 2.7 rebounds.

Bulls’ Kris Dunn to be re-evaluated in 4-6 weeks with MCL sprain

Chicago Bulls guard Kris Dunn underwent an MRI and re-examination on Friday, Feb. 14 by Dr. Brian Cole at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. He will continue his current rehabilitation program of his medial collateral ligament sprain for the next 4-6 weeks before progressing to functional training. A determination will be made at that time if additional treatment is required.

Warriors will not re-sign Pargo and Norvell Jr. after end of their 10-days contract

Golden State Warriors will not re-signed guards Jeremy Pargo and Zach Norvell jr. after the end of their 10-days contract, as reported by the San Fancisco Chronicle.

“I know we have a list of players we’d like to take a look at,” Golden State head coach Steve Kerr said. “We’ll see how that all pans out. There’s a chance that, over the last couple months of the season, we take a look at some different players. That’s the idea.”

Cavaliers center Andre Drummond to be traded next summer?

The Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the NBA at the trade deadline in trading for Andre Drummond at the trade deadline, but according to Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz, there is some belief around the league that the Cavaliers could look to flip Drummond as early as this summer.

“I don’t think [Drummond and the Cavs] will last long,” one former NBA general manager said, as reported by Swartz. “I could see them trading him to a team this summer if he agrees to pick up his option. They could also do a sign-and-trade if he agrees to a new long-term deal. I don’t think he’ll be in Cleveland for long.”

Italian Basketball Federation president says Paolo Banchero will get Italian passport in a few days

Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) president Gianni Petrucci confirmed the news anticipated by Sportando: five-star prospect Paolo Banchero will get his Italian passport in a few days.

“He has the rights to become Italian. The passport will come in a few days. In Paris I have also spoken with Donte DiVincenzo” Petrucci told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Tom Thibodeau reportedly chasing Knicks coaching job

Tom Thibodeau is eager to become the next head coach of the New York Knicks, sources told Marc Berman of the New York Post. “He really wants the Knick job. He can taste it and he may even be in the lead,” said a source close to Thibodeau.

The New York Post previously reported that Thibodeau and Jeff Van Gundy are on Leon Rose’s shortlist to take over as the Knicks head coach. Thibodeau is inactive since the ending of his tenure with the Minnesota Timberwolves in January 2019.

John Beilein, Cavaliers agree to part ways

John Beilein is stepping down as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, as reported by ESPN and The Athletic. Both parts negotiated a settlement that will pay him a portion of the remaining money on his 19-20 deal, with the coach renouncing to the remaining part of his contract beyond this current season: Beilein left Michigan to become head coach of the Cavaliers on a five-year deal.

The Cavaliers will promote J.B. Bickerstaff to full-time head coach. Former Rockets and Grizzlies coach was initially hired as part of an eventual succession plan with Beilein.

Nets’ Kyrie Irving out indefinitely after re-aggravating shoulder injury

Kyrie Irving will miss time due to the same shoulder injury that forced him to be sidelined for 26 games early this season.

 

Per ESPN, he is scheduled to see another specialist this week, Nets coach Kenny Atkinson said.

“That’s about all I can tell you,” Atkinson said. “His shoulder continues to bother him. That’s about the extent of it now.”

Atkinson said Irving will be unavailable for Brooklyn’s first game after the All-Star Break against the 76ers on Thursday. Irving was not at practice on Tuesday night.

Atkinson said he will have a clearer timetable for Irving after he sees the specialist.

 

Warriors to keep Jeremy Pargo for the season?

The Golden State Warriors are expected to keep Jeremy Pargo for the remainder of the season.

Pargo has played three games with the Warriors so far averaging 8.7 points.

Per SF Chronicle, Per a league source, the Warriors are likely to let Pargo finish the season. What happens after that is anyone’s guess. For salary-cap reasons, the Warriors might want to give their last couple of roster spots next season to second-round picks or undrafted rookies.

Lakers’ Frank Vogel says Cousins could return this season

DeMarcus Cousins could be back this season and help the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs.
Cousisn suffered an ACL injury during the summer after his signing with the Lakers.

Per USA Today, The 29-year-old four-time All-Star signed a one-year contract with the Lakers during the offseason before suffering an ACL injury in August. But according to coach Frank Vogel–who spoke with reporters in Chicago–DeMarcus could be back providing an added punch to the Lakers lineup by the playoffs.
“He’s on track to get healthy by the playoffs,” Vogel said. “We’ll have to see where he’s at with rhythm and conditioning and timing and all that stuff. But there’s a possibility he returns this season, yes.”

Nunn finalized the deal in Chicago during the All-Star Weekend. He is averaging 15ppg with the Miami Heat.

Rockets to sign Jeff Green and DeMarre Carroll

The Houston Rockets are signing Jeff Green and DeMarre Carroll.

Green will sign a ten-day contract while Carroll will join the Rockets once he clears waivers.

Carroll has negotiated a buyout with the Spurs where he signed for three years last summer.

Per ESPN, The contract buyout with the Spurs included negotiations on guaranteed money of $2.3 million for the rest of this season, $6.65 million in 2020-2021 and $1.35 million in 2021-22.
The Jazz waived Green in late December after signing him to a one-year free-agent deal in July. He averaged 7.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 30 games.

Bulls to make changes in front office

The Chicago Bulls are expected to restructure the front office and the duo Gar Forman-John Paxson won’t remain beyond this season, as reported by Chicago Sun-Times.

Per ESPN, Chicago Bulls president Michael Reinsdorf has been gathering background on potential candidates to take over the franchise’s basketball operations

Paxson and Forman have presided over the Bulls’ front office as a tandem since 2009.
The Bulls are set to miss the playoffs for the third straight season and the fourth time in five years.

Cavs, John Beilein expected to part ways

John Beilein and the Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to part ways despite a five-year contract signed by the coach last summer.

Per ESPN, The Cleveland Cavaliers and John Beilein have discussed the possibility of the coach stepping down before the end of the All-Star break, and Beilein was expected to reach a decision in the next 24-48 hours, league sources told ESPN.
Beilein was expected to speak with Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman again about his future as soon as Monday, league sources said.
Since he signed a five-year contract upon leaving the University of Michigan , Beilein, 67, has been increasingly unable to adjust to a dramatically different world in the NBA.

Marcin Gortat retires: I am finishing my basketball career

Marcin Gortat announced his retirement from basketball in an interview with TVP.Info.

The Polish big man has played 12 seasons in the NBA collecting 806 games at 9.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest.

Gortat wore the jersey of the Los Angeles Clippers last season.

“I am retiring. I am finishing my basketball career. I want to thank all the supporters that were watching and supporting me. It was very important for me. It is time to end my career. I think this is the moment. I gave myself a year to see what life would bring me and it brought me to the decision of retiring”.

Gortat has earned more than $95 million in his NBA career.

Gortat will be 36 on Monday, February 17.

NBA executives still view James Wiseman as a likely Top-5 pick

James Wiseman is taking a unique path to the NBA: after playing just three games in college he left Memphis, due to various regulatory issues, to prepare for the 2020 draft.

“Most executives league-wide see (Wiseman) as a likely top-five pick, and as one of the favorites to end up in the top-three,” as reported by Sam Vecenie of The Athletic. Wiseman could drop further depending on how the lottery plays out.
