Jazz Waive Yogi Ferrell and Malcolm Miller

The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has waived guard Yogi Ferrell and forward Malcolm Miller.

Ferrell (6-0, 178, Indiana) has four years of NBA experience with the Brooklyn Nets, Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings, owning career averages of 7.8 points, 2.3 assists and 2.1 assists in 20.4 minutes per contest. In 2019-20 he saw action in 50 games for the Kings, averaging 4.4 points, 1.4 assists and 1.0 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per contests.

Miller (6-7, 210, Holy Cross) has played in three NBA seasons with the Toronto Raptors, where he’s averaged 2.0 points on 43.4 percent from the field in 55 career contests (five starts). The Gaithersburg, MD., native has appeared in 97 games (79 starts) in the G League with the Maine Red Claws and Toronto 905, owning career averages of 12.1 points on 46.2 percent from the field, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 blocks in 29.9 minutes per game.

Minnesota waive Charlie Brown Jr., Zylan Cheatham, Tyler Cook, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas announced the team has waived guard Charlie Brown Jr. and forwards Zylan Cheatham, Tyler Cook and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

Hollis-Jefferson  averaged 7.7 points and 2 rebounds in 3 preseason games.

Minnesota’s roster now stands at 15 players, including  two-way players Ashton Aghans and Jordan McLaughlin.

Nets release Chris Chiozza, Elie Okobo, Paul Eboua

The Brooklyn Nets have requested waivers on guards Chris Chiozza and Elie Okobo and forward Paul Eboua.

Chiozza originally signed a two-way contract with Brooklyn on Jan. 4 and then re-signed with the Nets on Dec. 1. He appeared in Brooklyn’s preseason game against Washington on Dec. 13, totaling eight points, two rebounds and two assists in nine minutes off the bench.

Okobo originally signed with the Nets on Dec. 16, while Eboua signed with Brooklyn on Dec. 18.

Brooklyn’s roster now stands at 17 players.

Knicks waive Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Bryce Brown, Myles Powell

New York Knicks announced today that the team has waived guard Bryce Brown, forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and guard Myles Powell.

Brown, 6-3, 198-pounds, was originally signed by New York on December 17, 2020. He appeared in one preseason game, scoring three points over three minutes.

Kidd-Gilchrist, 6-6, 232-pounds, was originally signed by New York on November 28, 2020. He did not appear in any preseason games.

Powell, 6-2, 195-pounds, was originally signed by New York on November 29, 2020 after going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Seton Hall University. He recorded two points over six minutes in one preseason game.

The roster now stands at 17, including two two-way players.

Bucks waive Nik Stauskas, Treveon Graham

The Milwaukee Bucks have requested waivers on Treveon Graham and Nik Stauskas.

Stauskas spent last season with TD Systems Baskonia, where he averaged 8.9 points and 1.6 assist in Euroleague, shooting 42% from beyond the arc.

Cavaliers Waive Three Players, Convert Marques Bolden to Two-Way Contract and Sign Norvel Pelle

The Cleveland Cavaliers waived Two-Way player Matt Mooney and guard/forwards Levi Randolph and Charles Matthews. The team then converted center Marques Bolden into a Two-Way contract and signed forward Norvel Pelle, Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts.

Bolden (6-11, 250) appeared in all four Cavaliers preseason games this year and played in one game for the Cavs last season after signing a 10-day contract on Jan. 30, 2020. He was also a member of the Cavaliers’ 2019 training camp roster and played in 38 games (27 starts) in 2019-20 with the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers’ exclusively owned and operated NBA G League affiliate, averaging 9.7 points on .596 shooting, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 18.9 minutes.

Pelle (6-10, 231) appeared in 24 games for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, averaging 2.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 9.7 minutes.

Minnesota to waive Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

The Minnesota Timberwolves are waiving Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Shams Charania reports.
The forward out of Arizona played 3 preseason games, with averages of 7.6 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal in just 11 minutes per game.

Thunder waive TJ Leaf, Admiral Schofield

OKLAHOMA CITY, Dec. 18, 2020 – The Oklahoma City Thunder has waived forwards TJ Leaf and Admiral Schofield, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti.

Leaf appeared in two preseason games with the Thunder, registering eight points and seven rebounds. He was originally acquired from Indiana on Nov. 25.

Schofield appeared in two preseason games with Oklahoma City, grabbing two rebounds and dishing out two assists. He was originally acquired from Washington on Nov. 19.

Kings sign, waive Vince Edwards

The Sacramento Kings have signed and immediately waived 2018 second-round pick Vince Edwards.

This looks like a move to acquire his G League rights but at the moment there’s no word on whether the Stockton Kings will play this season or not.

Brooklyn Nets officially claim Paul Eboua off waivers

BROOKLYN – The Brooklyn Nets have claimed forward Paul Eboua off waivers.

Eboua (6’8”, 214) was previously signed by the Miami Heat on Nov. 25 and waived on Dec. 16. He spent the 2019-20 season with VL Pesaro in Italy’s Lega Basket Serie A, where he appeared in 18 games (12 starts) and averaged 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per contest. The 20-year-old Cameroon native previously played with the Roseto Sharks in Italy’s second division during the 2018-19 season and with Italy’s Stella Azzurra U18 team in multiple global tournaments over the two prior seasons (2016-18).

Warriors Waive Dwayne Sutton, Axel Toupane, Kaleb Wesson

The Golden State Warriors have waived forwards Dwayne Sutton, Axel Toupane and Kaleb Wesson, the team announced today. All players originally signed with Golden State on December 4. The Warriors roster currently stands at 17 players.

Sutton averaged 1.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 4.7 minutes over two preseason games with the Warriors. As a senior at Louisville in 2019-20, he was an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection.

Toupane tallied averages of 2.5 rebounds and 1.00 blocks in 7.7 minutes over two preseason games with Golden State. A two-year NBA veteran (2015-17) who most recently played with SIG Strasbourg of LNB Pro A in France, Toupane owns career NBA averages of 3.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 14.1 minutes in 25 games with the Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans.

Wesson averaged 1.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in 6.1 minutes over three preseason games with the Warriors. He earned 2019-20 All-Big Ten Second Team honors as a junior at Ohio State.

Zion Williamson lost more than 25 pounds after the end of NBA bubble

Zion Williamson struggled during the NBA’s restart in August as questions continued to plague him about his fitness. Williamson, however, has appeared more explosive in his lone preseason game so far this season. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that the 2019 first overall pick has lost more than 25 pounds since the end of the NBA bubble.

Williamson played just 24 games in 2019-20 because of a meniscus surgery, and was under minutes restriction.

Rudy Gobert reportedly willing to accept less than supermax to extend with Utah

Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz continue to discuss a contract extension but it has been difficult for the media to get an accurate gauge on where each side stands on the negotiations. Gobert is eligible for a supermax but he is not holding out for that rich of a contract, as reported by ESPN’s Tim MacMahon and Brian Windhorst.

The relationship between Gobert and Donovan Mitchell also no longer appears to be a concern for Utah, according to ESPN as well.

Jordan McLaughlin signs a two-way contract with Minnesota Timberwolve

Jordan McLaughlin signs a two-way contract with Minnesota Timberwolves.

McLaughlin played last season 30 games with T-Wolves and 23 with Iowa in G League.

Daryl Morey: We are not trading Ben Simmons

Shams Charania reported that the Philadelphia 76ers have made Ben Simmons available in some packages with the Houston Rockets for James Harden.

In response, 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey told: «We are not trading Ben Simmons — he is an important part of our future».

Knicks waive Louis King, sign Bryce Brown

The New York Knicks announced they’ve waived Louis King and signed Bryce Brown.

The Knicks have been signing and waiving several players on non-guaranteed deals in order to acquire their G League rights and let them spend the season with their affiliate team.

Will Barton: I am a starter. I have no plans on being a sixth man

Will Barton doesn’t want to be a sixth man. His role is to be a starter, according to his own words.

Per The Athletic, Ahead of Wednesday night’s game, it was unclear what Barton’s role would be. Would he retain his starting small forward role and relegate Michael Porter Jr. back to the bench? Would he take Gary Harris’ job starting at shooting guard? Or would he be the guy who melded the starters with the bench unit? “I am a starter,” Barton double-downed on Wednesday. “I have no plans on being a sixth man. I have no desire to be that.”

“My job isn’t to keep anybody happy,” Malone said. “If I wanted to keep people happy I’d sell ice cream for a living. I have to make tough decisions and as we move forward to that season opener, the tough decisions will have to be made.”
