New York Knicks believe they have enough assets to get a ‘major player’

The team currently has eight tradable first-round picks, including four picks of their own. In addition, the Knicks have several players eligible for trades, including Evan Fournier with his expiring $18 million contract (Josh Hart and Miles McBride cannot be traded before the 2024 deadline).

Toronto Raptors’ Pascal Siakam prefers to become free-agent

The Dallas Mavericks are seeking to strengthen their power forward position, as reported by Marc Stein of Substack. The Mavs have shown interest in Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors, but Stein notes that this interest is “overstated”. The Mavericks are also linked with a move for Isaiah Stewart. The Raptors can offer Siakam a four-year, $190 million max extension until June 30. Teams trading for Siakam can only offer a two-year extension. Siakam is unlikely to agree to this two-year extension, opting instead to become a free agent. The Pistons and Grizzlies could also emerge as trade candidates for Siakam.

Now that the Raptors are rebuilding, the 6-foot-6 wing will head back home to contribute significantly. Barrett is anticipated to make his Toronto debut as soon as the deal is completed and both parties have completed their physicals.

NBA looking into Nets’ choice to play without seven players vs Bucks

The Post has heard that the NBA is looking into the Nets’ choice to play with a thin roster against the Bucks on Wednesday.

The league is assessing if this constitutes a violation that can result in fines.

In a load-management move that angered a lot of their supporters and seemed to irritate their best player, Mikal Bridges, the Nets chose to bench four players against visiting Milwaukee. To make matters worse, they added three more players early in the 144-122 loss.

Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, Nic Claxton, and Spencer Dinwiddie all sat out the whole game. After the first quarter, the Nets increased their pressure and benched Bridges, Cam Thomas, and Royce O’Neale.

After playing five games in seven days, including the Bucks match, Brooklyn went on a four-game, six-night road trip.
