Brisbane Bullets add Tyler Johnson to NBL23 roster

The Brisbane Bullets are thrilled to announce the signing of NBA veteran Tyler Johnson for the upcoming NBL23 season on a one-year deal.

Since beginning his NBA career in 2015, the 30-year-old American has played over 350 games in the League. The former Fresno State standout played his first five seasons with the Miami Heat and had stints with Phoenix, Brooklyn, San Antonio and Philadelphia.

Johnson and Bullets teammate, Aron Baynes have already played together. The duo has had demonstrable NBA success as teammates at the Phoenix Suns in the 2019/20 season.

With an NBA career high of 32 points and multiple playoff appearances, the 6-foot-3 guard will add additional scoring power to the Bullets back court and is a highly skilled playmaker.

Bullets General Manager of Basketball, Sam Mackinnon said the club was excited to secure the signature of the experienced guard.

“We identified recruiting an American guard and to be able to sign someone of Tyler Johnson’s ability and pedigree ticks the box of our recruiting brief.

“Adding Tyler to our back court of Sobey and Cadee gives us great flexibility and we add another playmaker. He can shoot the ball exceptionally well, creates for his teammates and many people have spoken about what a quality human being he is.”

Hostplus Head Coach James Duncan is excited to welcome a player of Tyler’s calibre to the Bullets.

Wayne Selden signs with Tezenis Verona

Former NBA player Wayne Selden has signed the contract with Italian Serie A newcomers Tezenis Verona, sources tell Sportando.

Selden spent last season between Afyon where he scored more than 19ppg and Ironi Nes-Ziona where he had 14.3ppg in Winner League.

Virtus Bologna pursuing Leo Menalo

Virtus Bologna is pursuing Leo Menalo as Italian to complete the roster for next Serie A and EuroLeague season, sources tell Sportando.

Menalo is a Croatian forward born in 2002 with Italian status.

He spent the past few seasons with Stella Azzurra averaging more than 4 points and 3 rebounds in Serie A2 in 2021-2022.

Menalo declared for draft this season before withdrawing his name.

Brady Manek reportedly joining Perth Wildcats

According to Christos Harpidis, Brady Manek will play his rookie season in the Australian NBL.

The power forward out of North Carolina has reached an agreement with the Perth Wildcats.

Manek was on the radar of several European teams, including Carpegna Prosciutto Pesaro.

Olimpia Milano has reached an agreement with Deshaun Thomas, born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on August 29, 1991, 2.01 mt tall, coming from Bayern Munich. “Deshaun will bring to our team experience, shooting and versatility: he is the player we were looking for to have more depth and more solutions. We are happy that he will be part of our team,” Olimpia’s general manager, Christos Stavropoulos said.“ “I’m happy and glad that Olimpia wanted me and chose me. WHO IS DESHAUN THOMAS – Deshaun Thomas comes from Fort Wayne in Indiana where he attended the Bishop Luers High School leading it to three consecutive Indiana State titles. From 2010 to 2013, he played for Ohio State. In his third season spent with the Buckeyes he averaged 19.8 points per game with 5.9 rebounds. In 2012 he was named to the second All-Big Ten team and after the following season ha was included to the first team. In 2013, after being the number 58 selection, by the San Antonio Spurs, in the NBA draft, he came to Europe to play for Nanterre in France (12.2 points per game in the French league). Subsequently, he was at Barcelona (7.1 points per game in the EuroLeague), the Austin Spurs, played for Efes (7.3 points per game), Maccabi (11.5 points per game in the EuroLeague), Panathinaikos (10.5 points per game during his first year, 13.9 with 4.4 rebounds in the second) and Bayern Munich (9.9 during the 2021/22 season). In between he also had a one-year experience in Tokyo in the Japanese league. He’s won the Greek championship and the Greek Cup in 2019 with Panathinaikos. He’s won the Israeli championship in 2018 with Maccabi. He’s won the French Cup with Nanterre. In the EuroLeague he has played 197 games with a career average of 9.7 points per game.

Paris Basketball lands Aamir Simms

Aamir Simms is a new player of Paris Basketball, the French team announced.

The power forward spent his rookie year in G League with the Westchester Knicks (11.3 points / 5.4 rebounds / 1.6 assists, 49% FG, 39% 3P, 89% FT).

Aamir Simms, who signed a one-year contract, is Paris Basketball’s second signing after Tyrone Wallace.

Fenerbahce reportedly interested in Carson Edwards

Fenerbahce  is trying to bring Carsen Edwards, an undersized guard with over 26 points and 4 assists per game in the G league last season, to Europe.

The news was reported by Unit Avci.

Carson Edwards was the No. 33 pick of the 2019 NBA Draft.

Besiktas strengthens roster with rookies Jordan Usher and David McCormack

Besiktas announced the arrivals of two rookies, forward Jordan Usher and center David McCormack.

Usher averaged more than 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists in his senior season at Georgia Tech, while McCormack ended his career at Kansas with 10.6 points and 7 rebounds in 21 minutes and a successful NCAA Tournament run.

 

Hapoel Holon keeps Hayden Dalton

Hayden Dalton remains another season with Hapoel Holon, as announced by the Israeli team.

The power forward joined the team last January, averaging over 11 points and 5 rebounds in Winner League.

DJ Kennedy joins Prometey again

American DJ Kennedy joins Ukrainian Prometey again.

Prometey Slobozhanske has reached an agreement with DJ Kennedy to return to the club for the upcoming season (via EuroCup). Kennedy (1.98 meters, 32 years old) spent the majority of last season with Prometey, but due to the situation in Ukraine, he saw out the campaign with Hapoel Galil Elyon of Israel. Whilst playing for Prometey in 2021-22, he averaged 13.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 20 Ukrainian League matches. He also recorded averages of 12.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals in 11 Basketball Champions League games for Prometey.

DJ KENNEDY’S CAREER

Kennedy already has experience of playing in the 7DAYS EuroCup from his time at BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque of France and Krasny Oktyabr of Russia during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, respectively. However, he only played a combined seven times, during which time he averaged 13.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

After spending four years at St. John’s University, Kennedy has gone on to play for 14 clubs during his 11-year professional career: Erie BayHawks and Rio Grande of the G League; Cleveland of the NBA; BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque of France; Hapoel Holon of Israel; Krasny Oktyabr and Enisey of Russia; Riesen Ludwigsburg of Germany; Guangzhou of China; Pınar Karsiyaka of Turkey; Melbourne of Australia; Reyer Venezia of Italy; and then Prometey and Hapoel Galil Elyon last season.

Prometey also announced the return of DJ Stephens.

CSKA Moscow says Kevin Pangos unilaterally terminated the contract with team to join Olimpia Milano

CSKA Moscow released a statement regarding Kevin Pangos on the official website of the Russian powerhouse.

CSKA Moscow announced that Kevin Pangos will continue his career with Olimpia Milano adding that the Canadian point guard terminated the contract with the team unilaterally to accept the offer made by the Italian reigning champions.

“Pangos signed a three-year agreement with CSKA in February this year, but he did not appear in our facilities”

The club is considering the possibility of recovering the compensation provided by the contract with CSKA in court.”

Kevin Pangos has been announced as a new player of Olimpia Milano on Wednesday.

Hapoel Tel Aviv lands Chris Horton

Hapoel Tel Aviv kept getting ready for its 7DAYS EuroCup debut next season by inking big man Chris Horton, the club announced Wednesday (via EuroCup). Horton (2.03 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Nanterre 92, where he averaged 13.7 points on 62.0% two-point shooting in 28 French League games last season. He led that competition in rebounds (8.1 rpg.) and blocked shots (1.8 bpg.), ranking third in steals (1.9 spg.).

Horton started his career with Grand Rapids of the G League and also played for Alba Fehervar of Hungary, GS Kymis of Greece, as well as for Cholet Basket and BCM Gravelines Dunquerke before joining Nanterre last season. Just as his new team, Horton is set to make his EuroCup debut next season. “I’m happy to welcome Chris to our team. He is an athletic big guy with a wide set of skills on both sides of the court,” Hapoel head coach Danny Franco said. “This signing has completed our squad towards the start of the pre-season.

Hamburg Towers sign James Woodard

Veolia Hamburg Towers added a scoring threat to their perimeter, signing guard James Woodard on a one-year deal, the club announced Thursday.(via EuroCup) Woodard (1.91 meters, 28 years old) arrives from a fellow German side Ludwigsburg where he averaged 9.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the German League action, while helping the team reach the Basketball Champions League Final Four posting 6.1 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Woodard now reunites with Hamburg’s head coach Raoul Korner, after the two worked together at another German side, Bayreuth, where Woodard led the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game. During his professional career, Hamburg’s new scoring guard also played with Rouen in France, Nevezis in Lithuania, MZT Skopje in North Macedonia, Cantu in Italy and Peristeri in Greece. Woodard is now set to make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut.
