Olimpia Milano agreed on a two-year contract with Kevin Pangos, a Holland Landing, Ontario, Canada, native, born on September 2, 1993, 1.88 mt. tall, formerly with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. “We strongly believe that Kevin Pangos is coming to Milano at exactly the right time: he has high-level EuroLeague experience, he is a proven winner, with the mental and basketball skills we’re looking for in a point guard. We are delighted to have him on our team,” Olimpia’s general manager, Christos Stavropoulos, said. “I’m very excited for the opportunity to play for such a great organization and to represent this nice city of Milan. I can’t wait to get started, to work with this group of guys and help the team win as much as possible,” Kevin Pangos said.
WHO’S PANGOS – Kevin Pangos, a Canadian, was raised in Ontario, slightly north of Toronto, gaining exposure while playing for the Canadian Junior National Teams. With the Under 16 team, he won the bronze medal at the Americas Championship in 2009 then again at the Under 17 World Championship in Hamburg, Germany, in 2010. In 2011, he played in the Under 19 World Championship again. In the fall of 2011, he moved to the United States to enroll at Gonzaga, in Spokane, Was., where he stayed four years. He has played 142 games, starting 141 times, the only exception being his career debut. Overall, he averaged 12.8 points and 3.8 assists per game, while shooting 41.5 percent from three-point range. He was West Coast Conference’s newcomer of the year in 2012, a All-WCC first-team member in each of his four seasons. In 2015 he was also player of the year and was named to the All-America third team. Undrafted in 2015, he moved to Europe and signed for Gran Canaria. He was named to the All-Eurocup second team (11.9 points, 4.8 assists per game and 51.2 percent shooting from three), after leading his team to the semifinals stage.
In 2016, he moved to Zalgiris Kaunas, making his EuroLeague’s debut. After averaging 8.7 points and 3.2 assists per game (45.7 percent shooting from three) as a rookie, he made a jump in his second season, averaging 12.7 points and 5.9 assists per game during the 2017/18 season when Zalgiris reached the Final Four and he was named to the All-EuroLeague second team. In 2018, he was signed by FC Barcelona. He had 7.0 points and 3.2 assists per game. He remained two years, but during his second season -however cut short – he could only play three Spanish league games and no EuroLeague games at all, because of a foot injury. In 2020, he moved to Zenit Saint Petersburg and averaged 13.5 points and 6.7 assists per game while being named to the All-EuroLeague first team. In 2021, he made his NBA debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He appeared in 29 games.
NOTE – Kevin Pangos has played the 2019 World Championships in China with Canada. His father, Bill Pangos, has been women’s coach at the York University in Canada for 29 seasons. At Gonzaga, he set the school record for three-pointers, 322, and is fifth for games played and points scored. He had a nine-three outing in his second game at Gonzaga, scoring 33 points-
