Ronaldinho has officially entered the race to take over AS Monaco Basket. According to L’Équipe, the 2005 Ballon d’Or winner has joined forces with Andorran investment fund Clayton Sport, with a letter of intent regarding a potential investment sent to Monaco executive director Oleksiy Yefimov on Monday, August 10.
The proposal comes as Monaco is already working on a takeover project led by former NBA player Jamal Mashburn and his Helen Holdings consortium. The club urgently needs a solution to satisfy the DNCCG’s financial requirements and preserve its place in the Betclic ELITE.
Ronaldinho and Clayton Sport could reportedly cover the €2.5 million debt owed to EuroLeague and provide the €5 million bank guarantee requested by the DNCCG. Their project would also involve a three-to-five-year commitment, with an investment of around €10 million per season. Ronaldinho could personally invest and take a prominent role in the project.
