Rome to have two teams in Serie A next season

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the arrival of a second Serie A team in Rome is just a matter of hours away.

In addition to Donnie Nelson and Luka Doncic’s Roma Basketball Club, a second franchise linked to the consortium led by Paul Matiasic—the current owner of Trieste—is reportedly ready. The vehicle for this operation would be Pallacanestro Brescia, with a formal request to relocate its headquarters to Rome expected within hours. Therefore, the 2025 finalist and 2026 semifinalist is on the verge of moving to the capital, wiping out the city’s local basketball scene after weeks of rumors.

The situation remains complex: the terms of the agreement with Mauro Ferrari, the future of Trieste, and the potential new corporate structure have yet to be clarified. In the background is also the Basketball Champions League, as the announcement of the participating Italian teams has been delayed following last-minute applications from both Brescia and Trieste.
