RJ Luis Jr. will be allowed to play for LSU during the 2026-27 season despite previously signing two NBA contracts. A Louisiana judge granted him a temporary injunction in a decision that could establish a significant NCAA eligibility precedent.
As reported by ESPN’s Myron Medcalf, Luis signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz and later an Exhibit 10 deal with the Boston Celtics’ G League affiliate. He appeared in NBA preseason action but never played in a regular-season or G League game.
Judge Ronald R. Johnson emphasized that Luis “did not actually play professional basketball.” The NCAA is expected to challenge the ruling, but the case could create a new pathway for other players who signed NBA contracts without establishing themselves at the professional level.
