Ricky Rubio will join Barcelona from Tuesday, after announcing that he has ‘reached the final stage of my recovery process’.
The Spanish star had decided to stop in the summer to deal with his mental health problems. Then, on 4 January, came his farewell to the NBA after his termination with the Cleveland Cavaliers. “After many weeks of working on my body and mind, I feel fit and strong enough to see how I feel with a ball in my hands,” Rubio wrote on X. “My next step was to ask Barcelona if I can, without obligation and without interrupting their plans for the season, train with them.”
The club’s answer was immediately affirmative. Rubio played for Barça from 2009 to 2011, and after 12 seasons in the United States at the age of 33, he returns to the Palau to train under Roger Grimau.
Rubio will then be at training in the session in preparation for the EuroLeague game with Virtus Segafredo Bologna on Wednesday.
