Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle reflected on his team’s 103-91 loss in Game 7 of the NBA Finals with emotion and perspective. Though the Pacers fell short of their first-ever NBA title, Carlisle’s pride in his group was clear.

He began by praising the Thunder: “Congrats to Mark Daigneault—one of the great young coaches in professional sports. They’ll have a great parade. They have great fans.”

On Tyrese Haliburton’s early exit due to injury: “All of our hearts dropped. But he’ll be back—I believe in a full recovery.” Haliburton, who scored 9 points in 7 minutes, remained an emotional presence in the locker room.

Carlisle pointed to a poor start in the third quarter as the turning point: “We needed to be better in the first five minutes. We just weren’t.” Yet he praised Indiana’s response in the fourth: “It was epic. Symbolic of who we are and what basketball in Indiana stands for.”

Asked about his locker room message, Carlisle kept it private but praised his players’ competitive fire: “You don’t author comebacks like we did without an indomitable spirit.”

He singled out Bennedict Mathurin (24 points, 13 rebounds): “He’s a fighter. These are the moments he lives for.”

Carlisle closed with a sentiment shared by many in Indiana: “There’s no feel-good way to lose the Finals. But it was defiant fight till the end.”
