According to Marc Stein, the New Orleans Pelicans have emerged as a potential suitor for Bennedict Mathurin.
The Louisiana franchise is reportedly interested in the restricted free agent guard of the Los Angeles Clippers, while another unidentified team is also said to be monitoring his situation.
With the Pelicans currently well above the salary cap—carrying a payroll of just over $192 million—the most realistic path to acquiring Mathurin would be through a sign-and-trade deal.
Mathurin was traded from the Indiana Pacers to the Clippers shortly before last season’s trade deadline. The former Arizona standout owns career averages of 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. After joining Los Angeles, he posted 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per contest.
