Real Madrid is among the clubs most openly supporting the NBA’s potential entry into European basketball. Speaking to Realmadrid TV, basketball director Juan Carlos Sanchez said Madrid is eager to see the project move forward, adding that cooperation with the NBA should happen “the sooner, the better.”
Sanchez also confirmed that EuroLeague shareholders are expected to meet in Italy to discuss an active proposal linked to the NBA. According to the Real Madrid executive, the arrival of the North American league could significantly boost European basketball in economic terms, media exposure and overall visibility.
The Madrid director also addressed rising EuroLeague budgets, arguing that European basketball should consider US-style financial controls, including a salary cap and mechanisms similar to the NBA luxury tax.
