Major supporters’ groups voice concern over NBA project despite criticism of EuroLeague

The three largest supporters’ groups of Real Madrid — Berserkers, Los Ojos del Tigre and PM La Gran Familia — have released a joint statement outlining their stance on the NBA Europe project and the club’s future.

While acknowledging several issues with the current EuroLeague, the fans believe that leaving it to join NBA Europe would be a serious mistake.

The statement stresses that official information remains limited and that the club has not publicly clarified its position. However, the supporters emphasize their commitment to a European basketball ecosystem built on history and tradition:

“We believe in a European basketball landscape where we can compete against historic teams with deep basketball traditions. As of today, that is not what the NBA Europe project offers.”

They argue that Real Madrid would likely be the only historic powerhouse in the new competition — a scenario they see as fundamentally flawed.

EuroLeague flaws acknowledged, NBA Europe questioned

The fans openly criticize EuroLeague decisions such as hosting the Final Four in Abu Dhabi, high ticket prices, and the inclusion of teams driven mainly by economic interests. Still, they underline that EuroLeague remains the competition that currently gathers Europe’s historic clubs under a clear — if imperfect — project.

By contrast, the NBA Europe concept is described as unclear:

“Based on the commissioner’s recent statements, the NBA Europe project creates more uncertainty than clarity, both from a sporting and economic perspective.”

Defending fan culture

The statement concludes with a strong defense of fan culture and affordability:

“We will always support a model of basketball where fan passion is a central pillar and where ticket prices are reasonable, so the sport does not become a luxury product.”

Regardless of the club’s final decision, the supporters reaffirm their unconditional loyalty to Real Madrid — in good times and bad.
