Quin Snyder spoke about the arrival of Ettore Messina as a technical consultant for the Atlanta Hawks. During the team’s preseason Media Day, Atlanta’s head coach discussed the personal and professional relationship he has with the former Olimpia Milano coach.
“We’ve known each other for a long time. We have a friendship beyond a professional relationship. I worked as an assistant with him at CSKA Moscow. We were assistants together in Los Angeles,” Snyder said.
The Hawks coach then explained the role Messina will have within the staff: “One of the things he wants, and that I’m really looking forward to having, is for him to be a consultant for the coaches.”
Snyder also highlighted the value of Messina’s experience within an NBA coaching structure: “His ability to be part of a staff, for a man who has had the success that he’s had, and his understanding that there are a lot of people on our staff that he can interact with, I think is something that he’s looking forward to as well.”
