Peppe Poeta explained to Repubblica Milano the philosophy behind the construction of the new Olimpia Milano roster, with the club focusing on players with potential, determination and the ability to fit into the group already in place.
Peppe Poeta on Nebo, Brooks, LeDay and Shields
Poeta also addressed the departures of Josh Nebo, Malcolm Brogdon, Zach LeDay and Shavon Shields, explaining that Olimpia had attempted to keep the players in Milan.
“We tried to keep them, but they went elsewhere to earn even four times as much. It is a sign that in Milan we develop players,” Poeta said.
RJ Cole and Darius Thompson lead Olimpia Milano’s backcourt
In the backcourt, Poeta is counting on the creativity of RJ Cole and the size and versatility of Darius Thompson. Devon Hall is also expected to play an important role, particularly as he takes on some of the leadership responsibilities previously held by Shields.
Jason Burnell and Leandro Bolmaro bring energy
Poeta also praised the energy that Jason Burnell and Leandro Bolmaro can bring to the team. The Olimpia coach believes that this type of contribution can make a significant difference in the EuroLeague.
“In the EuroLeague, you win 50% of the games like that,” Poeta said, referring to the energy and intensity required to compete at the highest level.
