The Olimpia Milano head coach discussed the team’s identity, competitiveness, leadership and the goal of reaching the EuroLeague playoffs during the Media Availability at the Forum.

Peppe Poeta met with reporters on Friday afternoon during the Media Availability at the secondary court of the Forum di Assago. The main topic was, of course, the new Olimpia Milano, with identity, toughness and sharing highlighted as fundamental elements to compete in the EuroLeague and chase a playoff spot.

On the playoff race

“Making the playoffs is a dream, clearly. Even more so this year. We have to be aware that there are six or seven teams that, in my opinion, are aiming to play in another league. We have to be the best version of ourselves, trying to compete in every game and build an identity that people can recognize themselves in and get excited about.”

On Olimpia Milano’s technical identity in the EuroLeague

“We have to find the right balance. We will have lineups capable of increasing our defensive aggression and, in certain situations, switching on screens. Offensively, perhaps we don’t have a true go-to player: we will have to play with flow, move the ball and find different players to step up. We will try to make up for that through team play and shared responsibilities.”

On Olimpia Milano’s competitiveness

“If we find a strong identity, we can compensate for some potential shortcomings compared to the best teams with enthusiasm, toughness and hunger. We have to become a boring team, a team that opponents don’t like playing against.”

On international experience

“Alec Peters and Devon Hall will be two leaders of the group in terms of leadership and experience. They have played in more Final Fours and will have to bring their winning mentality into our culture. Here, their role will grow: even before the technical and tactical aspects, they will be important in building the team’s culture.”

On the EuroLeague and NBA Europe

“The NBA Europe project has already generated enthusiasm, economic momentum and significant investments. I hope a solution can be found to bring the EuroLeague and the NBA together: I am convinced that together they can create a top-level product. The EuroLeague is already an excellent product and must be valued in the right way. If a partnership with the NBA comes, all the better.”
