Peppe Poeta on the difficulty of EuroLeague
Peppe Poeta discussed the challenges of coaching in the EuroLeague during an appearance on The Benas Podcast, admitting that the job has proven even more demanding than he initially expected.
“I thought it was hard, but not that hard. With the love for this job and for the game, it remains really, really difficult,” Poeta said, as reported by RealOlimpiaMilano.
The daily preparation for EuroLeague games
The Olimpia Milano head coach highlighted the enormous amount of work required to prepare for every opponent, particularly the time spent studying games and trying to understand opposing teams.
“I was watching three games of the opponents. After a loss or a win, you have to keep going and try to get inside everyone’s head. It’s really a hard job. It was better to play,” Poeta explained.
The demanding schedule and the constant need to prepare for the next opponent represent one of the biggest differences between playing and coaching at the highest level of European basketball.
Peppe Poeta: from lower divisions to Olimpia Milano
Poeta also reflected on his journey into basketball, recalling how his coaching career began in the lower divisions, where he earned just €300 per month.
“I didn’t have to work a single day in my life. I do what my passion is,” Poeta said, underlining his strong connection with basketball and his decision to dedicate his career to the game.
Poeta prepares for his first full season with Olimpia Milano
After leading Olimpia Milano to the Italian championship, Poeta is now preparing for his first full season at the helm of the Italian powerhouse.
The 2026-27 campaign will therefore represent another major challenge for Poeta, who will have to combine domestic ambitions with the demands of a full EuroLeague season.
