The New Orleans Pelicans continue to expand their head coaching search, and Steve Hetzel is now among the names in the mix. The current Brooklyn Nets assistant has interviewed for the vacant position, joining a growing pool of candidates being considered by the organization.
Hetzel is part of Jordi Fernandez’s staff in Brooklyn and remained in place after the Nets recently extended both their head coach and assistant group. His name is also familiar in league circles, having previously surfaced in other NBA coaching searches.
The process in New Orleans remains open. James Borrego is still viewed as an internal option, while other names recently linked to the Pelicans include Darvin Ham, Sean Sweeney, Jarrett Jack and Rajon Rondo. Basketball operations chief Joe Dumars had already indicated that the franchise did not want to rush into a fixed shortlist too early in the process.
