Two very different backgrounds united by one ambition: to bring Rome back to the top of Italian basketball and build a club that becomes part of the city’s sporting culture.

Two stories and two deeply different backgrounds, but one common goal: to bring Rome back to the top of Italian basketball on a permanent basis.

That was the central theme of the official presentation of Maxima Roma, held this morning in Piazza Venezia, in the heart of the Italian capital. The two main figures at the event were club president Paul Matiasic and Francesco Totti, who has been appointed by the ownership as Advisor and a key figure for fan-base development and Corporate Social Responsibility activities.

“Rome deserves great basketball”

Matiasic was the first to speak, summarizing the ambition behind the new project in just a few words:

“Rome deserves great basketball.”

The message goes beyond simply building a competitive team. Maxima Roma’s vision is to become an integral part of the city’s sporting and social life.

“We want to build not only a team, but a sporting experience for the city,” Matiasic explained, outlining a model strongly inspired by American sports culture.

A sporting experience beyond the game

The idea is to transform every game into part of a much broader experience, engaging fans before tip-off and continuing even after the final buzzer.

“In the United States, we’re used to thinking of sport as something that starts well before the game and continues after the final buzzer.”

For Maxima Roma, therefore, what happens on the court will remain fundamental, but it will have to be accompanied by entertainment, identity and a sense of community, while maintaining a strong connection with the traditions of Italian basketball.

Building an ecosystem around the team

The club aims to create a genuine ecosystem around the team, bringing together basketball, families, young people and local businesses.

The project is designed to appeal to a broad audience and establish a direct relationship between the club and the city, with Maxima Roma aiming to become more than simply a basketball team.

“We want a packed arena”

Matiasic’s ultimate goal is to create a new sporting culture in Rome, turning every game into a recognizable weekly event for the city.

“We want a packed arena, families in the stands, children choosing their favorite players and fans who feel that this team belongs to them.”

It is an ambitious vision in which sporting growth will go hand in hand with the development of the fan base, the community and the club’s identity.

Maxima Roma wants to put basketball back at the center of the Roman sporting scene, gradually building an organization capable of representing the city both on and off the court.
